YouTube Adds Option to Hide End-Screen Pop-Ups

YouTube is giving viewers more control over their experience by introducing a way to hide the pop-up recommendations that appear at the end of videos. Starting this week, a new “Hide” button will appear in the top-right corner of the video player whenever an end screen shows up. Tapping it will dismiss the recommendations for that specific video. If you change your mind, a “Show” button will bring them back.

The update addresses a long-standing frustration for many users: end screens often obscure the final moments of a video, making it difficult to see what’s happening.

YouTube also announced it is removing the Subscribe button that appears when hovering over a video’s branded watermark. The platform explained that this feature was largely redundant since a dedicated Subscribe button already sits directly beneath the player.

According to YouTube, the changes are driven by user feedback requesting fewer distractions and a simpler way to focus on the video at hand.

For creators, YouTube says the impact should be minimal. End screens remain available as a tool, and early experiments showed that giving viewers the option to hide them reduced end-screen views by less than 1.5%. Similarly, the company noted that hover-to-subscribe contributed to only about 0.05% of total channel subscriptions.

The update reflects YouTube’s ongoing effort to balance creator tools with viewer experience — giving audiences more freedom while maintaining engagement opportunities for channels.
